Housing cooperative

HOUSING COOPERATIVE

We have organized ourselves as a cooperative housing association, because we want a larger sense of community than the owner model encourages and more responsibility and influence than the rental model can accommodate.

Mission

To be a small happy self-sufficient, proactive community – a cluster of future society with holistic consciousness and integrated planetary vision.

Aim

We build 19 small apartments with kitchenettes in the dormitory building, primarily for the people associated with the project – providing we get a local plan that works.

→ Latest research: Households in Danish eco-villages have 30-50% lower carbon footprint than the average Danish household. Members of eco-villages (average carbon footprint of 8.4 tonnes) have a slightly higher life satisfaction, compared to the most consuming quarter of Danes (average CO2 footprint of 22.6 tonnes).

What is shared

Shared common facilities: Laundry, kitchen, dining room, living room, yoga/meditation room, cars, guest rooms, sauna, studio, library …

Daily shared meals. The community kitchen will provide two high quality nutritiously complete 95% vegan meals a day. The bulk of the food consists of whole grains, beans, seeds & local vegetables, complemented with smaller amounts of fruits, nuts, and animal foods.

Shared tasks. With such a large common area and so much activity, there is a considerable amount of shared (voluntary) tasks.

What is private

Apartments are private one, two or three rooms apartments with small private kitchen.

Enterprises are private or co-created by subgroups.

It doesn’t come for free

Success in regenerative enterprises, communities or cultures critically depends on the level of personal development of the people that co-create these collectives.

Thus our collective thriving depends on our individual:

  • ability to articulate and achieve goals
  • capacity for clear communication
  • integrity in making and keeping commitments
  • intellectual and emotional flexibility
  • ability to love ourselves and develop a deeper understanding of and compassion for different people.

Perceiving conflicts as an indicator that there is unmet needs and aspirations makes conflicts a gift to personal and communal growth.

Stimulants

Stimulants are reduced to a minimum, since they don’t align with our basic approach to life:

We compassionately connect to ourselves, each other & the environment and contribute towards a thriving planet.

3 paths to live in Oasis Ecovillage

As a regenerative entrepreneur. People with a mutually supportive regenerative enterprise may be moved to the top of the waiting list. Teachers who have entrepreneurial experience or work part time on a regenerative enterprise will be preferred as living examples on what is taught.

As a pioneer participant. You are willing to put all you got into getting the project as a whole up and running with very little in return, until we get established.

As a student. While you study at the People’s College you may grow into finding a more permanent place with us.

The process

Paying your membership fee starts a mutual exploration period, where

  1. Information will be shared with you when you ask for it (to not overload you).
  2. You share with us how contributing to this project aligns with fulfilling needs in your own life.
  3. You will be invited into appropriate working groups/meetings
  4. You are granted the same decision rights as a full member and expected to take ownership to the project and come in with an active contribution, so that we can get to know each other.
  5. Either of us may call for a formal acceptance/rejection, when we feel it’s time.
